EXTENSIÓN (optional)
Pick-up in the morning from either Resistencia or Formosa.
We will drive to Fortín La Soledad, a small rural settlement located on the edge of Bañado La Estrella (approx. 4 hours from Formosa / 6 hours from Resistencia). Upon arrival, we will be welcomed by our local partners and settle into our accommodation for the next two nights.
After lunch and a short rest, we will enter the wetlands for the first time by canoe. The afternoon will be dedicated to slowly navigating through this vast flooded ecosystem, observing the remarkable wildlife diversity it has to offer.
After dinner, we head out again for our first night herping session, combining road cruising and/or walks in search of reptiles and amphibians active after dark.
Meals included: Lunch and Dinner.
A full day devoted to exploring different habitats within the wetland system and adjacent Chaco forest.
Activities may include:
-
Sunrise boat ride through mist-covered lagoons
-
Forest walks in the Chaco Dry Forest
-
Wildlife photography and birdwatching
-
Night-time herping via hiking and/or road cruising
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
After breakfast, we drive approximately one hour to Las Lomitas, our base for the following two nights.
We will stay in comfortable wooden cabins located on the outskirts of town. The afternoon will be more relaxed, allowing time to enjoy the property’s facilities — swimming pool, gardens, or simply resting under air conditioning after two intense field days.
Before dusk, we depart toward our main road cruising area, where we will spend most of the night searching for reptiles, amphibians, and other nocturnal wildlife typical of the Chaco region.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Today’s schedule will remain flexible depending on weather conditions and wildlife activity.
We will visit a nearby wetland site close to Las Lomitas either in the morning or in the afternoon. At this location, we will spend some hours birdwatching, observing caimans, enjoying the scenery, and possibly doing some fishing.
The remaining half of the day will be kept for rest at the cabins, allowing everyone to recharge before our final night in the field.
In the evening, we conduct our last herping session, venturing one final time into the Chaco forest in search of key target species.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
After breakfast, we will pack our belongings and begin our return journey to the city (aprox 4 hours to Formosa or 6 hours to Resistencia, depending on your departure location).
According to guests’ flight schedules, we may include lunch along the way at a traditional regional restaurant before drop-off at the airport or hotel.
This marks the end of our expedition through the wetlands and dry forests of northern Argentina.
Meals included: Breakfast.
Add one more night to this adventure and enjoy a full day of fishing plus a camping night deep in the heart of Bañado La Estrella.
